Pennsylvania Helpline Helps a Senior Face Elder Abuse

Wanda, an 83-year old, contacted the Pennsylvania SeniorLAW HelpLine for advice on how to have her grandchildren and great-grandchildren removed from her home. Wanda stated that a few weeks ago her great-granddaughter had threatened to slap her. Wanda also stated that her great-grandson regularly abused drugs and alcohol and she was very afraid of him. Although Wanda told her grandson (the children’s father) about the behavior, he merely told her to call the cops if she felt threatened. Wanda told the HelpLine attorney that she had gone to her local police department, but was told they could not assist her because her grandchildren and great-grandchildren did not have a lease to live with her. Wanda stated that her grandchildren and great-grandchildren had been living with her on-and-off for their entire lives because their mother was in and out of jail. Wanda advised that she no longer felt safe in her home and wanted her grandchildren and great-grandchildren out of her home. Through the assistance of the HelpLine attorney, Wanda was able to get her grandchildren and great-grandchildren out of her home where she can now live in peace without fearing for her own safety.
